The 'Skinny' on Sex After Weight Loss

Slimming Down May Not Always Improve Women's Sex Lives, Weight Loss Experts Tell What You Can Do About It

CHARLESTON, S.C., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- If a woman thinks that finally attaining her size 4 weight loss goal will make her sex life explode with excitement, she may have to guess again. Shrinking body size can actually diminish sexual pleasure for many women, according to Rosie Schulman, RN, and her husband Harold, an Ob/Gyn, Medical Professor and clinical researcher and co-authors of Tipping the Scales, a book on getting and living thin. They say that where sex is concerned size may indeed matter.

"As women lose weight, the fat cells that used to produce and store estrogen are not as productive as they were when she was heavy," explains Dr. Schulman. "That means while her body is more svelte and attractive, her physical processes usually supported by estrogen, such as blood flow to genital regions and vaginal lubrication, may actually diminish. Reduced lubrication doesn't make for great sex."

Zestra(TM) is one of the solutions that may help solve the weight loss- lack of lubrication problem, according to the Schulman team. The female arousal solution created by pharmacists from bioactive botanical components is the only product of its kind that has been studied in a well-designed clinical trial conducted by recognized sexual medicine experts and is published in respected medical journals (www.zestraforwomen.com).

According to the Schulmans, Zestra(TM) combined with tender massage, helped lubricate delicate tissue with heightened warmth, tingling, sensation and lubrication. "Often when women lose weight, physical factors and years of psychological indifference have caused their sexual switch to be turned off and there are some changes and reprogramming that need to be done before sex can become enjoyable."

Schulman attributes the syndrome to mental attitude, but her ob-gyn husband and co-author Harold Schulman, MD, says that there may be a simple physical reason for less pleasurable sex with weight loss, namely declining estrogen. Recent research has shown that when women lose weight their free serum estrogen declines. This means that less estrogen gets to vital organs such as the vagina, uterus and breasts. Although not closely studied this could result in a decrease in genital blood flow and vaginal moisture in some women.

In women who lost weight and are experiencing sexual problems, Zestra(TM) may be uniquely beneficial. Clinical study results on Zestra(TM) were first reported in Boston at the prestigious International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH) and were recently published in two respected peer-reviewed medical journals -- The Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy and Drugs. Zestra(TM) is the only non-prescription product that is clinically proven to increase arousal, pleasure and satisfaction in women.

"Losing weight is something that should be celebrated," states Rosie Schulman, who has helped many people lose and keep their weight from creeping back on. "A woman should feel every bit as sexy as she looks. Otherwise what's the point of it all?"
