Zestra Laboratories, Inc. (Formerly QualiLife Pharmaceuticals, Inc.) is
proud to have been an exhibitor at the 2005 Annual Meeting for the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH) held in Las Vegas, NV (October 27 - 30,
2005)
ISSWSH Needs and Objectives:
Hormone therapy, particularly testosterone therapy, remains a controversial issue in the treatment of female sexual dysfunction and other menopause related problems. More recently the
public and medical spotlight has highlighted the contentious debate regarding the approval of new medical treatments for female sexual dysfunction. Clinicians and researchers are raising
questions about how the FDA determines the balance between efficacy and safety. Related to the issue of efficacy is the dilemma facing experts in the field as to what endpoints should be
used in clinical trials for treatments of female sexual problems.
Three other topics that are particularly relevant to the current research in female sexuality: 1) understanding the role of passion and desire in female sexuality with a focus on evolution,
hormonal influences and differences between heterosexual women and lesbians; 2) the wide range of treatment approaches for vulvar pain disorders, and 3) the use of cutting edge technology to
further our knowledge of female genital neuroanatomy and what changes occur during sexual arousal. Given this needs assessment, this program includes the following Learning Objectives:
- To explain the role of the FDA in new drug development and identify the criteria and endpoints used by FDA committees in evaluating new drug applications.
- To evaluate the experiences of passion in women and describe how it relates to sexuality.
- To report on the sexual lives of lesbians and their experiences of desire.
- To assess the role of androgens in women and contrast the risks and benefits for using androgens to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder in women.
- To formulate treatment strategies for women suffering from vulvar pain disorders including treatments offered by the subspecialities of physical therapy, psychology, surgery and
medicine.
- To illustrate cutting edge techniques including genitourinary electrodiagnostic testing to use in obtaining detailed anatomical information regarding female sexual arousal.
